If you don’t recognise this handsome French face, you probably haven’t been to a sweat sesh at everyone's favourite outdoor movement community - Fitness All Together. Kev took over FAT in 2021 and his passion for it really inspires us, so we had a chat about it.
Tell us a little about what you do?
This is the story of a Frenchman who arrived in Auckland in July 2014, passionate about fitness and excited to start a new life, explore the world despite not being able to speak English. A lot of things have happened since the first day I landed in New Zealand but I ended up loving it so much that I decided to build a life here. I am now the proud owner of Fitness All Together, an outdoor movement community based in Auckland on a mission to inspire as many people as possible to stay active and have fun doing it.
When did you take over Fitness All Together and what made you want to?
FAT founder Elliot used to participate in some of my classes when I worked for Les Mills. After a few catch-ups and discussions together, I joined him on the FAT journey from July 2020. After lots of ups, downs, laughs and cries together, Elliot decided to move on to a new journey and I decided to keep this special community alive in July 2021. He and I had the chance to share an amazing experience as business partners and created a friendship that I will forever be grateful for.
What made me make this decision? It’s quite simple, Fitness All Together ticks all the boxes of how I see fitness, community and creativity, so I guess it was just meant to be…
Where does your passion come from?
For as long as I can remember, I have always played sports with my mates and created forever friendships while fuelling my competitive personality. When I was a teenager, I started training the younger generation at my fitness club and just like that, I fell in love with coaching. The game-changer came when I realised that it could become my work and I could live off it.
After a few years in the fitness industry in Europe and New Zealand, I have managed to join my two main passions into one with FAT: Touch more peoples lives and learn how to run a business and meet like-minded humans. It’s the sweet spot for me I guess.
What's the toughest part about your passion?
Aha, morning alarm? Believe it or not but my last French gym used to open at 9 am. Imagine the shock when I arrived in New Zealand. Although I complain about it, a sunrise session down at Silo Park with 30 half-awake people smashing a workout makes it worth it.
What are some of your goals for FAT this year?
At the moment my main focus is to make sure all our participants, public or corporate have the best experience and feel the most supported. I value our community so much and am still amazed to be able to train over 300 people every week, so I want to take care of them! Business-wise, we are growing. This year, alongside our talented coaching team, I will be looking for our first employee. As you can imagine, it is a big step for a small business but I am sure the stars are going to align and a future FAT legend is going to join the team.
